Stale and empty…

Dump Obama

Please read The Democrats’ Soft Extremism on Peggy Noonan’s Blog (Wall Street Jurnal)

Here is a taste:

There was the relentless emphasis on Government as Community, as the thing that gives us spirit and makes us whole. But government isn’t what you love if you’re American, America is what you love. Government is what you have, need and hire. Its most essential duties—especially when it is bankrupt—involve defending rights and safety, not imposing views and values. We already have values.
    …………….
What a fabulously confident and ingenuous-seeming political narcissist Ms. Fluke is. She really does think – and her party apparently thinks – that in a spending crisis with trillions in debt and many in need, in a nation in existential doubt as to its standing and purpose, in a time when parents struggle to buy the good sneakers for the kids so they’re not embarrassed at school… that in that nation the great issue of the day, and the appropriate focus of our concern, is making other people pay for her birth-control pills. That’s not a stand, it’s a non sequitur. She is not, as Rush Limbaugh oafishly, bullyingly said, a slut. She is a ninny, a narcissist and a fool.
    …………….
Bill Clinton is The Master. That is stipulated. Almost everyone in the media was over the moon about his speech. It was a shrewd and superb moment of political generosity, his hauling into town to make the case, but it was a hack speech. It was the speech of a highly gifted apparatchik. All great partisan speeches include some hard and uncomfortable truths, but Mr. Clinton offered none.

Skating through the system?

Dump Terry Bernardo

About a year ago, a pillar of our community explained to me – with indignation – how Len and Terry Bernardo, owners of Skate Time 209, failed to meet the job targets promised in the original IDA application. He even suggested that I should FOIL the relevant documents and make the findings public.

Now, it seems that the Ulster County Industrial Development Agency (IDA) is finally taking a more aggressive stance toward the businesses that are not meeting the job targets promised under their IDA agreements.

The IDA board voted Wednesday to reduce the Sportsdome’s payment-in-lieu-of-taxes agreement by an estimated $20,000 over the next three years, a cut in benefits of more than 40 percent over that period.

The Sportsdome, located in Milton, was supposed to add 16 jobs but only created two, not including referees who work as independent contractors. The IDA’s aggressive stance toward the Sportsdome is part of its new accountability strategy. The board is applying a formula that decreases benefits by 50 percent of a project’s under-performance, said Chairperson David O’Halloran during the IDA’s Wednesday meeting.

It is high time Bernardos’ under-performance also triggers an appropriate action from IDA. Enough lame excuses already. I hope the community pillar agrees with me.

UPDATE:
The Times Herald-Record published today (September 6, 2012) more details regarding the under-performing projects:

Skate Time 209 — which applied to the IDA as TLB Management — projected 37 jobs but only has nine, according to IDA documentation.

Good People Failed by Their Party

Dump Terry Bernardo

Please read this rather-long-but-worth-your-time article. This is only the beginning:

Republican Delegates: Good People, Failed by Their Party

After four hours speaking to Republican delegates and alternates inside the Tampa Bay Times Forum on Tuesday, I am prepared to offer one firm conclusion: the vast majority of people representing the GOP here are decent, polite, civic-minded people acting in accordance with their consciences. Their goodness is a confounding reality of American politics. The congressional delegations from both parties are corrupt. Politicians seeking office constantly misrepresent the truth. Partisan surrogates who speak on cable TV are often hardened, cynical versions of their younger selves. Political consultants are, insofar as they have core beliefs, Machiavellians.

Breaking News?

Dump Terry Bernardo

Browsing the MidHudsonNews.com one could easily get the impression that in our universe everything revolves around Terry Bernardo. Yesterday:

    Dump Terry Bernardo
The storm passed well to the west of Tampa, causing little effect on the city. For local delegates, including Ulster County Legislature Chairwoman Terry Bernardo, that meant a day of killing time.

Today the photographer took the advice offered on Ulster County Cloakroom: Keep your eyes peeled for a pink pants suit.

Shameless in New York

Dump Terry Bernardo

NYS Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman filed charges against Shirley L. Huntley (D) – a state senator from Queens – accusing her of conspiring to help a niece and an aide steal money from the nonprofit agency she founded shortly after she was first elected in 2006.

Ms. Huntley, 74, handcuffed behind her back, was led out of a building at the Nassau County court complex in Mineola on Monday, joining a parade of Albany lawmakers who have been accused of abusing their office for personal gain.

The senator’s office issued a statement:

“Senator Huntley has been an advocate for parents and children in this community for over 40 years,” it said, “and, rest assured, she will continue representing the 10th Senatorial District.”

Espada, Kruger, Bruno, Lopez, Huntley… not much decency left in politics.

“It’s really being on the state committee and being active on the state committee, attending the state convention, attending the state committee meeting that really start to qualify you to attend the national convention.”

UPDATE: More fluff about Terry Bernardo from our correspondent Terry Bernardo: Area GOP delegates wait for convention to start.
