O’Halloran resigns as Rochester GOP Chair someday in May

Dump David O'Halloran

After attending the Pinegrove Republican meeting, I was so disgusted, I threw up, then went to bed. I woke up to a few requests for an update on what happened Wednesday night, and to this email:

    Dump David O'Halloran

Yes, David. I have two photos from last night. The one you see at the top of this page – you’re looking good, buddy! – and the one you’ll find below.

People, don’t get too excited! Nothing happened at Pinegrove but the expected. In other words, what was permitted was mandatory.

Earlier in the day, Terry Bernardo used a few pipelines to convey to David O’Halloran that he could have all the VLTs he wants, and then some. She couldn’t wait to vote YES, YES, YES! A little funny – considering the conflicts of interest list she gave to Daily Freeman:

Bernardo said she abstained from voting on the measure because of her personal and professional involvements with O’Halloran.

She said that as the town of Rochester GOP chairman, O’Halloran hosted fundraisers for her. And in the past several months, Bernardo and her husband, Len, have been embroiled in a dispute with the Ulster County Industrial Development Agency over tax breaks given to the Bernardos’ business, Skate Time 209. Earlier this month, the agency, which is headed by O’Halloran, revoked the Bernardos’ tax breaks.

Of course, after pushing the toothpaste back in the tube, O’Halloran un-hosted the fundraisers for Bernardo. Poof! No more conflicts of interest…

Back at the Ranch, we have three candidates vying for the nod:

Terry Bernardo – current Chairwoman of the Ulster County Legislature
Manuela Michailescu – former Town of Rochester Councilwoman
John Dawson – recruited by O’Halloran two days ago

Based on the meeting’s agenda distributed at the door, everybody expected a decision on the Endorsement for Legislative District 21 to be made. Didn’t happen.

Dump David O'Halloran

Why, after interviewing the candidates for almost two hours, did O’Halloran decide to re-schedule the vote for May 23?

Given the fact that Terry Bernardo and Manuela Michailescu have been interviewed by the same Committee two years ago, and considering that everybody knows exactly who John Dawson is, what could possibly happen in the next 30 days to change how the Committee members would have voted last night?

Terry Bernardo is not going to become an honest politician, Manuela Michailescu is not going to flirt with dishonesty, and John Dawson is not going to undo his less than proper attempt to influence Manuela’s vote on his airport-in-Rochester project, when Manuela was a Town Board member.

We all know the meaning of the black smoke: no endorsement yet. We must wait till May 23 for the white smoke and mirrors.

As for David O’Halloran resigning the town GOP chairmanship, he told me so a bunch of times: “If my Committee endorses Terry Bernardo, I will resign.” Against all odds, let’s hope that he is a man of his word.

  1. David O'Halloran says:

Jon, As usual I have no comment on your post, but no one can deny your are a phenomenal creative artist. Your graphics, including ones that portray me in a negative light, are hilarious! Well done, I couldn’t stop laughing.

    • Thank you David for the kind words. Please pace your laughing, this is just the beginning…

The picture isn’t nearly as funny as your email…… You go back to dirty politics as usual with the Bernardos…… Even after all the trash in the paper….. You discard Manuela as a serious candidate…. Get one of your neighbors and former political pal to announce his candidacy…… Then you have the balls to ask the man for pictures from the night you decided to bend over for the Bernardos again….. Now THAT is some funny $h!+!! Jon is funny but it’s the material you give him that makes it hysterical!

You are what makes it all so funny, mr o. You are the laughing stock of ulster county.

  2. Anonymous says:

David, that hairdo is very becoming of you.

    • Anonymous says:

Last time I saw him he looked aged and gray. Jon must have touched up the picture to make it more visually appealing – artists do that.

  3. Anonymous says:

Lmfao… I thought the post was great… Comments even better.

Not surprised by the actions or lack of action. Maybe it’s my lack of optimism regarding anything involving the parties involved to do the right thing for anyone other than themselves.

Gonna try it again, Dave? I know you are an intelligent man and learn from your mistakes so I am confident that you will be bringing your own lube this time. I hope it’s as good for you as it is for them and for those of us sitting back and watching it happen again and again and again……

    • Anonymous says:

Yeah, he is an intelligent man. I think Mr Einstein may feel differently about your observation.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Maybe insanely intelligent which is probably a recipe for disaster – again!

The entertainment in this sleepy little country town is outstanding; Chipmam should get in touch with one of the major networks about having their own reality show. LMAO

It is fun to watch! Is this a form of voyeurism?

Dawson?? For real? It looks to me like he has resorted to recycling the old throwaways from years ago! Recycling is a great thing! It’s good for the environment, can lower carbon footprints, decreases the amount of trash in our landfills, great for conversation and entertainment. He should have started with cans – some things just aren’t worth recycling.

  6. Anonymous says:

WTF?!?! What happened to Dunn??? I thought he was going to run????? How did Dawson get thrown into all of this???? Not the update I expected!!!!

  7. Anonymous says:

Since things are going back to just the way they were is O’Halloran getting his seat back on the IDA? And the GOP?

  8. Anonymous says:

Just think maybe 2 birds one stone. Terry get the nomination Dave quits . Terry gets her ass beat by a Democrat and maybe takes Chipman with her. A win-win

  9. Jon – well done! Very funny and well written.

And 8:50am – how right you are. It remains to be seen what Democrat will run for District 21, but from what I hear there will be a challenger. Will surely give me some really interesting material to write about.

The change will never come from within an antiquated as-is Ulster County Republican party. The change will come from the general voting public who will support a Democratic Party candidate. The Republicans do not know how to cut their losses as in, the Bernardo’s. They need the INDPNY line to win. Without it, they are toast in most districts.
The smart money will be getting behind electable Democrats and working towards making the Bernardo’s irrelevant and then rebuilding the Republican Party from the ground up. The morally corrupt leadership of the Republican party needs to be purged. County Officers, Legislators, Town and City Committees, all of them. They are dragging way too much legacy thinking around with them. They are outdated and the only way they win is by making deals with the devil as they have with the Bernardos. It is not a sustainable model for long term relevance.

    • Anonymous says:

They DO NOT need Bernardo’s ballot line. There is no instance when a Republican candidate won because of the votes cast on the Bernardo Independence line. None.
What they need is a spine, and something to offer.

      • Anonymous says:

They do need it: Look it up.

        district 2 Aiello Vs.Frey Vs. Luppino 2011
district 10 Maio Vs. Lyons 2011
district 14 Lopez Vs. Distel 2011
district 17 Wishnick Vs. Kalmus Vs Greenfield 2011

One other one I can think of was on a townboard race in Esopus
        Councilman Wenzel Vs. Barnett 2010

    • Anonymous says:

You are so very right! I am a Republican in this town and sick about what O’Halloran and Bernardo’s have turned the party into. I did not attend the meeting at Pinegrove because I knew it would be more of the same and apparently I was right. I am ready to support a Democrat if one runs.

Rochester Smoke Out… Now I finally get it!

  12. Anonymous says:

5:42 you’re off base, the only win with the I line was Lopez who is done this year anyway. The rest of the Republicans still win without the I, look it up.

    • Anonymous says:

That I line can win an election or throw an election – it can work either way. Win by cross endorsing and throw by running another less popular candidate.

    • Anonymous says:

Dude, you should look at the BOE site, 5:42 is right.
Minus the I line for those people and the best they do is come close. The people with the I won by less than the margin of total I votes on the I line.

looking at daves mugshot, cant stop thinking: PILOT ERROR

  14. Anonymous says:

Amazing how the conflicts of interest were resolved and VLT support is overwhelming… Threats of ruining political careers… All resolved??? At what cost??? There is some more wheeling and dealing going on….. All to benefit them cuz there isn’t one of them that gives a crap about anybody other than themselves.

  15. Anonymous says:

This is just David’s way of teaching the Bernardos that Terry cannot move forward without Pope David’s blessings.

  16. Anonymous says:

Guessing it remains business as usual for the bloated Davey O. Compliments to Jon for using an old picture. Sleepy Rochester needs an awakening–the political snakes need to flee Rochester and the voters need to wake up. Skate Time a Tourist attraction–hardly! And the Pine Grove Dump— with horrid reviews wants to now entice poor seniors citizens to the bed bug mecca. Rochester needs to be heard and represented. Manuela stand tall and lead the way. Rid those snakes out of your Town.

8:40, I knew the truth could be hurtful but didn’t know til today that it could also be hilarious! great comment!

    • Anonymous says:

Any suggestions on how that might be done?

      • Anonymous says:

Plenty! Knowing Manuella, she’s gonna be on the ballot.

If she makes it to the republican primary, take everybody you know and vote for her. Not an easy task, Lenny Bernardo controls the firefighters vote, and they are crazy about Terry. If Terry, perish the thought, wins the primary, look for Manuella’s line on the ballot in November. It’s extremely important to never ever vote on the Independence line (Terry’s husband owns it), or on the Conservative line (Terry’s BFF Fornino owns it). Spread the word, go to the polls, vote your conscience. Enjoy the result.

How many people actually attended this hoax advertised as a Republican Committee meeting?

  18. Anonymous says:

    Not counting the crooks–about 10.

  19. Anonymous says:

The only smoke in Rochester is the smoke being blown up everyone’s a$$ by Bernardos and O’Halloran.

  20. Anonymous says:

Just read something on Liberty Coalition website and am curious if there is any truth to it. It basically says that Troy Dunn’s name was only thrown out there to scare Terry. Any truth to it?

He’s played this card many times before, has even resigned a couples times just to end up back in the driver’s seat.

  22. Anonymous says:

Poor David–the Town of Rochester BULLY. He has no friends. He runs a dump. The only card game left for him to play is Joker’s Wild. Give it up–before it gives you up.
