New Paltz Regional Chamber of Commerce Withdraws Support of Nevele Executive

It has come to our attention that Ulster County Executive, Mike Hein, has withdrawn his support of Michael Treanor, the chief executive officer of Nevele Investors and Claremont Partners, the investors’ group behind the $420 million Nevele Resort Casino & Spa project in Ellenville, NY, amidst revelations about Treanor’s criminal past. The New Paltz Regional Chamber of Commerce, in an effort to best serve our community, also withdraws our support of Mr. Treanor.
“The story we have been made aware of is deeply disturbing and, although we support the Nevele project, we cannot support the leadership team at the proposed Nevele Resort Casino & Spa unless Mr. Treanor is no longer involved in this project. Our action is about doing what is best for the community and for the region that we serve. We have notified the leadership team at the Nevele that the letter of support written by the New Paltz Regional Chamber of Commerce on their behalf is void and should be removed from any and all documents pertaining to this project until this matter is rectified in a satisfactory manner,” stated Peter Ingellis, Interim President.

Without going into the pros and cons, things could be worse than not having a casino. In fact in the long run, if there are any instant gratifiers that could strain to grasp a more time total picture, the local community will be better off.
But did Mike Hein and all the rest know about his past is the real question?
No the real question is, is the sister managing to continue coping with her life.I hope she has gotten counseling and therapy.
Who knew what and when is the worry created by the media and public who are always looking for that smoking gun.
Michael Treanor out as head of Nevele casino developer in wake of bombshell report
The sister is the real victim, managing is obviously the #1 issue, However that does not negate the importance of our duly elected public officials from carrying out their responsibilities. One of which is to protect Ulster County and it’s residents. The County, lead by Mike Hein promoted this project and only this project, with Michael Treanor as it’s front man, spokesman, and face for 2 years. Someone has to be held accountable for the best interests of Ulster County and if not Mike Hein, than who? A smoking gun is required in this instance.
How does this change the project? Yes it now has a severe black eye because of the choice of representative but exactly what about the value to the county is changed. The man has been removed. The chances of getting a casino have lessened. Definitely. But it changes nothing as far as what the project offers.
What it changes is the reputation of the company and certainly calls into question the ability of the company to use good judgement. Would you select them after they let a person who was convicted of a sex crime be their front man? The project is as doomed as doomed can be. You can thank the big shots in the county for not doing their due diligence.
the county does not have a say who gets a casino or not. the county Legislature and Hein supported a home rule request from the Town of Warwarsing for a casino in their town. Cahill supporters looking for something to move the spot light off of him.
Seriously, how can you say Hein and the others who have supported this guy, stood with him in front of the press on numerous occasions, passed more than one resolution in support of the project, and blocked anyone else from having a chance in Ulster County are innocent bystanders? They should have checked the guy out before they decided he was the best choice for Ulster County. They, lead by Hein did not do the due diligence on this, plain and simple. It is clearly a case malfeasance by Ulster County officials. In the end, because they failed their responsibilities and did not get this guy out of the picture sooner, the chances of siting a casino in Ulster County have been greatly diminished.
This has nothing to do with Cahill and everything to do with Hein, like it or not.

They published the resume sent in by Treanor. Freeman is a joke! Point out one investigative piece they did… You’re right, none!
Stage is now set for a casino in Orange & Sullivan. Ulster gets nothing, sound familiar.
In hindsight, looks like Bernardo didn’t just screw Hudson Valley Resort and Pinegrove Ranch, she screwed the entire county. Now we will not get any property tax relief from gambling. The new growth by these massive developments will spur growth in those areas.
It wasn’t Bernardo who is responsible for this mess. It falls squarely on the shoulders of Hein and the current Legislature for backing a single location. Something again “uniquely Ulster” as Hein would say. No other County was stupid enough to put all of their eggs in one basket, all the while knowing the fox was watching the hen house.
Bernardo was against the VLTs which is an entirely different issue. That is not on the table here.
I beg to differ… You’re right to blame the current legislature, because is almost identical with the old legislature. As the “new” legislature was seated only four months ago, it’s obvious that the “old” legislature with Bernardo at the helm is the one responsible for the debacle. Remember how many times Bernardo said publicly that she has the connections to make the casino happen in Ulster County. I don’t know about Hein, but I know too well about the Bonacic Chapman Bernardo gang.
I do not disagree with the relationship you point out, it reared it’s ugly head many times during Bernardo’s tenure. However, Bernardo’s legislature did not vote to back a single property for a Casino. Hein and the current Legislature are bound, both morally and ethically by the resolution they all approved and signed.
We all have opinions which mean nothing when it comes to Government. It is when you vote those opinions into law where it matters. Bernardo even with all her faults, did not do that. Hein and the current Legislature have.
Bernardo was against the VLTs only AFTER she was for VLTs, when her relationship with IDA Chair David O’Halloren was entirely good! Just go and read again her second inaugural speech as Legislature Chairwoman… When IDA started to question her Skate Time PILOT she began to be against VLTs and to fight O’Halloren. During the debate before last November election she was almost screaming that she’s ideal and the best for Casino at Nevele because she has the necessary connections, goes to the Governor’s mansion, etc. Have you all forgotten about this?!
4:18 pm – Saying that “Bernardo’s legislature did not vote to back a single property for a Casino” is not supported by facts; I believe 4:35 pm (May 3) is right: “the county Legislature and Hein supported a home rule request from the Town of Warwarsing for a casino in their town.”
First of all, the Bernardo Legislature specialized in memorializing resolutions! Secondly, they did rush to affirm their support for a Casino at Nevele early on, long before people even had a chance to learn about the proposal, or to vote for the casinos in general. That was shocking to many but not surprising to those who saw the potential Casino at Nevele (and the financial benefits for all those involved) as the very reason for Terry Bernardo running for Legislator to begin with…
The Casino at Nevele and Bernardo are inseparable.
I agree with 7:36 pm. People in Rochester – which Terry Bernardo pretended to represent for 4 years – may remember, from attending the town’s Republican Caucus in 2011 or reading about it in the paper, that the main declared reason for her to want the Legislature Chairwoman position was… to “bring jobs” by having the Nevele Casino in Wawarsing. Bernardo had a well conceived plan to be part of the Casino deal in UC.
Hein, Bernardo, and the current Legislator are equally culpable. They all stood up for one casino. They abandoned everyone else in the county who may have had an interest and now look where that left Ulster County. in the back of the pack with very little to no chance for success. The one common denominator is Hein and his power politics.
It looks to me that Bonacic and Langdon Chapman (he no longer gets a paycheck from Ulster County but gets one from Orange instead) sold Ulster County down the river. We should of seen it coming when Orange County was added to the Catskills Designated Area for Casino Development. Bonacic’s answer to adding Orange to the designated area legislation was so that they could receive some of the revenue to be shared by local governments in the defined area.The story breaking out about Treanor’s misdeeds smells of Langdon’s playbook to tarnish the Nevele’s chances of getting a casino license. I think this was planned all along and that they waited for the right time to try to drop this bomb on the Nevele as it is a leading contender.
I can’t really understand where the “putting everything in one basket” talk is coming from as far Ulster County is concerned..The only other proposal I know about was the one that the Hudson Valley Resort put out for a short period of time. They started with a disadvantage as support was already legislated at the county level for the Nevele, Albany had long been lobbied, and local support was corralled.I met with the principal owner to map out what before they announced their plans and told them it would be difficult for them to catch up to the Nevele but they believed they could pull it off. They forged ahead anyway and brought their building plans to the Planning Board and things were moving right along for them. I was actually surprised by the lack of public interest in the project. I was even more surprised when they withdrew their application. They hadn’t faced any opposition at the Town level and were basically ignored at the county level.
We must remember that there were no other players for a casino before the referendum was passed. We also must differentiate that supporting the Nevele Project is not supporting Michael Treanor. Treanor’s gone and he is not the project. There is new leadership so let’s move forward as best we can to support the only project being proposed in Ulster County. .
Treanor is not gone. He just lost his title. He is in Ellenville daily. The Nevele thing is as dead as Terry Bernardo’s political career. I thought i read that there were two applicants who have yet to designate where they want to go? Why not try and lure one of them. If you pull that off Carl, you could be the next Executive and we can get rid of the current phony.
He’s back!!! Let’s see if the county bigwigs like Hein pipe up now.
