Terry Bernardo – the Queen of Sloppy

During the last four years I pointed out a number of times that Legislator Terry Bernardo embarrasses us all: her speeches are sloppy, her writing is sloppy, her website is sloppy, her newsletter is sloppy, her complying with the laws is sloppy.

Let’s look together at her website:

I used colors to underscore Terry Bernardo’s making the most of her skimpy vocabulary – she repeats the words ad nauseam.

committed (red) – 4 times
representation (green) – 4 times
during my term as Legislator (orange) – 2 times
feel a part (grey) – 2 times + bonus

I also like “making an positive impact” (circled in yellow) and I love the jump from District Twenty One to District One (underlined in blue).

What I don’t like is the fact that two years after re-districting, Legislator Terry Bernardo appears in all New York State Board of Elections’ financial disclosures as being a Legislator from District 1 (Saugerties):

Wake up Rochester! Don’t be fooled again by Bernardo’s bullshit…
Your representation is NOT in reliable hands!

Comptroller Auerbach endorses Lynn Archer for Legislator

I want to go on record as endorsing Lynn Archer for Ulster County Legislature. Lynn has worked effectively for 6 years as a Town of Rochester Councilwoman, during which she has built a reputation for her ability to work across party lines and her skill at bringing people together on issues.

Lynn brings excellent credentials to this position. In addition to her work in local government and as a small business owner, she served as Director of Human Resources at JPMorgan Chase, a position which demanded an understanding of complex business and people issues and the ability to find solutions to tough problems. Lynn is devoted to our community. She listens first and is committed to acting in the best interests of all the people who live and work here.

Lynn Archer is a great choice for the people of Rochester and eastern Wawarsing, and a great choice for Ulster County.

Elliott Auerbach
Ulster County Comptroller

County Exec Mike Hein endorses Lynn Archer for Legislator

The people of Ulster County and the people of the 21st District deserve effective results-oriented leadership. As County Executive, I have made that the cornerstone of my administration. Lynn Archer is a smart, hard working, long time member of the community who will be a phenomenal representative as a County Legislator.

The people of Rochester have the right to demand better leadership in the Legislature and Lynn Archer will deliver results as we reduce taxes and improve government. So, on November 5th, 2013, I urge you to vote for Lynn Archer for Ulster County Legislator.

Michael Hein
Ulster County Executive

Supervisor Chipman endorses Lynn Archer for Legislator

Lynn Archer’s candidacy for Ulster County Legislator elicits bittersweet feelings from me. I’ve had the privilege of working with her on Town of Rochester’s Town Board for nearly six years and must admit that I feel a sense of loss from her moving on to serve the people of our town at the county level. Lynn has impressed me with her strong work ethic to serve all of the people of our town regardless of partisan persuasion.

I consider Lynn to be a fiscal conservative as she has always attempted to protect the pocketbooks of the taxpayers of our town and I think she will do the same at the county level. I could always count on Lynn to bring a level-headed approach using good old fashioned common sense to the table as we have tried to serve the needs of our community. I also think that Lynn Archer’s priorities are in order as I’ve seen her place the safety of our residents at the top of the list. I saw that when she introduced waiving the permit fee for wood stoves back in 2008 to ensure that people were safely installing their wood stoves.

I’ve been extremely fortunate as Supervisor to have worked with such an amazing group of people serving on our Town Board and Lynn has been such a huge part of this experience. We have worked together to do the best we can to serve the people of our town without regard to our respective partisan affiliations. At the same time I have seen petty bickering and partisan politics stymie cooperative efforts at the county level. We desperately need cooperation instead of partisan posturing at the county level and I am extremely confident that Lynn will bring leadership in that effort. As much as I will miss Lynn at our table in the Town of Rochester, I support her candidacy for Ulster County Legislator and eagerly look forward to working with her as our county legislator as we try to serve the needs of our community.

Supervisor

Councilman Cilenti backs up Lynn Archer’s integrity

Letter published in Shawangunk Journal – September 26, 2013

I wish to respond to a recent comment to a story which appeared in the Daily Freeman, “Ulster County Legislature Chairwoman Terry Bernardo relishes GOP primary win.” Maple24‘s comment criticizes our colleague, Rochester councilwoman Lynn Archer, who is challenging Legislator Bernardo for the District 21 seat in the November election. The comment contains numerous misrepresentations and inaccuracies. I was present at the March 14, 2013 Rochester town board meeting when Tim Bunch, the “former US Marine/War Veteran” mentioned in Maple24’s comment (and also currently a candidate for Rochester town supervisor on the Independence Party ticket) spoke in support of the motion, which he had previously sent to the board, to repeal the state’s recently enacted Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act of 2013 or SAFE Act. Although Maple24 goes on to say that “A motion was then made by a council member to rescind the SAFE Act,” perhaps implying that it was the motion presented by Mr. Bunch, Mr. Bunch’s proposed motion was neither considered nor approved by the town board.

Instead, after I remarked, “We [board members] are elected to put resolutions on the table,” the board heard, and subsequently adopted, a resolution, entitled “Resolution in support of the Second Amendment” written by our colleague, councilman Tony Spano, which had been submitted to the board just a few hours before the board meeting.

I have complete confidence in the honesty of councilwoman Archer’s representation that, as the busy owner of a small business, she had not had the opportunity to review councilman Spano’s proposal prior to the vote. And it was his proposal, not Mr. Bunch’s, that was before the board. I am also completely sure of her integrity, and understand and applaud her unwillingness to vote on a proposal that she had been unable to review prior to the vote (unlike our state representatives who voted for the SAFE act without sufficient time to discuss or debate it properly). Her decision to abstain, under the circumstances, reflects the best kind of behavior of a thoughtful elected official.

Submitted in the interest of accuracy,

Tavi Cilenti, Councilman
Rochester

O’Halloran-Bernardo’s Effect… or effin’ sheep?

If you place metronomes on a static object and set them rocking out of phase with one another, they will remain that way indefinitely. Place them on a moveable surface, and something mesmerizing happens. Watch to the very end!

Nine Eleven

Did you attend commemorative events today? Did you watch them on TV? How are you feeling? What are you remembering?

The victims included 246 on the four planes, 2,606 in New York City, and 125 at the Pentagon. I find some peace in reading their names to myself.

On the day of the attacks, New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani proclaimed, “We will rebuild. We’re going to come out of this stronger than before, politically stronger, economically stronger. The skyline will be made whole again.”

The skyline will be made whole again! I often thought about what Giuliani said, because my brother Adrian Marinescu – shown below in his World Trade Center “office” – kept posting photos from above.

It’s 11:06 PM. The polls closed at 9:00 PM. All poll sites in Ulster County finished reporting, except those in District 21 (Rochester and East Wawarsing). What gives?

Eeny, meeny, miny, moe… or primary in Rochester

Let me tell you from the get-go: Terry Bernardo will win this Republican primary.
Among the reasons are the self-serving political ineptitude of David O’Halloran (the BS artist formerly known as the Chair of the Rochester Republican Committee), and the fact that people have a hard time accepting that they were fooled for the last four years.

Dump Terry Bernardo Dump Len Bernardo Dump David O'Halloran

The candidates’ quotes in the September 6, 2013 Blue Stone Press article are risible.

From the mouth of Terry Bernardo:

Constituents on Kyserike Road came to Bernardo about putting up signs and enforcing the speed limit along road by the school. Bernardo first discovered that the speed limit needed to be changed by the State and then new signs put up and lines painted.

Constituents on Kyserike Road? How many, and how did they multiply? Because I remember a list of Terry Bernardo’s top ten achievements in 2010. Here is achievement number 5, and you can see that back then the constituents were just one resident:

Back then Terry Bernardo used to give credit where credit was due:

“Thank you to the Town of Rochester Town Board for helping to make this happen.”

In other words, she was thanking Supervisor Carl Chipman, her former challenger Councilwoman Manuela Michailescu and her present challenger Councilwoman Lynn Archer.

From the mouth of John Dawson:

“That’s the way I fight towns, I get licenses,” Dawson said. “This way I know the facts and can use them to help people.”

Getting licenses to fight towns? If elected legislator, does he plan to fight his own town instead of representing it?

“The county hasn’t held the budget. They’ve raised it, twice,” according to Dawson. That’s one of the reasons he’s running.

They? Who the hell is they? County Executive Mike Hein had a first negative budget in years, passed by legislature at the end of last year. Dawson doesn’t know jack…

He says he felt he got the cold shoulder when bringing up the subject of taxes. That’s when he decided to run.

When and where did he bring up the subject of taxes? Rochester is proud to not have tax increases, what taxes is he talking about? Moreover, at the meeting on April 17 when he announced his candidacy the reason for running was to create jobs! Not a word about taxes, not a word about budgets…

Raising one’s hope for November, the crop of anti-Bernardo electoral signs of the last few days is obviously the contribution of somebody more sophisticated than Dawson or his main supporter.

Do you see the dilemma of the Republican voters in District 21? One candidate is recycling achievements trying to make us forget her husband and her badly stained record, the other is inventing issues every two-three days, not knowing why he’s running. Both part of the miserable legacy of David O’Halloran, the former chairman of you know what.

Eeny, meeny, miny, moe…
